Since the creation of the festival in 1953, this unequalled open theatre, with the castle as setting, is the annual appointment of artists as well as theatrical and musical ensembles of international breadth. In 1953 a handful of people from Wiltz had the extraordinary idea to create a Festival in the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg.
Welcome to the 67th edition of the Festival de Wiltz, one of the biggest and longest-established open air festivals in Luxembourg and the Euroregion! Here in Wiltz, in the north of Luxembourg, the month of July is dedicated to concerts, theatre events and artistic performances presented live on stage in the magnificent amphitheatre, against the backdrop of the Wiltz Castle. On long summer evenings thousands of festivalgoers gather in the generously proportioned canopied auditorium to enjoy live shows by internationally celebrated artists, Luxembourg premieres and new crossover productions. The 2019 festival programme again features a fabulous line-up of musicians, dancers, acrobats and performers, including top acts Dee Dee Bridgewater(USA), Morcheeba (UK), Bilderbuch (AUT), Scala & Kolacny Brothers (BEL) and Etta Scollo (ITA). Lovers of spectacular circus shows and neoclassical ballet may look forward to the Losers Cirque Company (CZE) and a new production of “Zorbas” (GER). The collaborative project “WaterArt meets Festival de Wiltz” features a gala concert with culinary accompaniment, and for those partial to enjoying live music in a cosy atmosphere the red tent next to the ‘Witches’ Tower’ hosts performances by Luxembourg jazz artists NoMad and Pit Dahm. Our youngest guests will be thrilled to finally meet Jan and Henry in the flesh: the popular meerkats of KiKA Children’s Channel fame will be presenting their musical for kids in Wiltz, performing live in Luxembourg for the first time. And to round off these delicious cultural events, a range of culinary delicacies will be available at the festival’s food village on performance nights.
