Led by LUGA 2023 asbl, the Luxembourg Urban Garden will be the first national horticultural exhibition to take place from May to October 2023.
This joint initiative of the City of Luxembourg and the Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development, in partnership with the Horticultural Federation of Luxembourg, will include installations in several key locations of the capital around four themes: “Pure Nature”, “Nature & Social”, “Nature & Culture” and “Nature & Urban Development”.
The aim of this initiative is to promote areas such as agriculture, viticulture, horticulture, green jobs, ecological urban development and recreational tourism.
As a prelude to this national event, the association is launching a call for tenders for the development of a concept and a concrete plan for an installation that will represent it at the international horticultural exhibition Floriade Expo 2022. The exhibition will take place from 14 April to 9 October 2022 in Amsterdam-Almere in the Netherlands.
A “circular economy” dimension
The installation will promote LUGA 2023 in an innovative and emblematic way to the general public and to visitors of this international exhibition, organised with the theme “Growing Green Cities”.
The installation, which is planned to cover a 13 m2 triangle, can take the form of a design, architectural, plastic or artistic installation or a prototype and must fit in with one or more of the four key themes of LUGA 2023. It should be visible from a distance and from the air and be easily dismantled and/or moved to other locations, notably in order to be used at the LUGA 2023 grounds.
The installation should be low-maintenance and should operate without personnel present on site. A “circular economy” dimension is particularly sought for this exercise.
A first note of intent must be submitted by 19 July 2021. The selection of the winning tender will be announced on 9 August. The study and plan must be finished by 15 November and the final implementation completed by 15 March 2022.
