Circular By Design Challenge: Call for European project partners

Launched at the end of October 2020 at the initiative of the Luxembourg Creative Industries Cluster managed by Luxinnovation, and with the support of the Ministry of the Economy, the Circular By Design Challenge is aimed at enabling the development of new design solutions and innovative business models that are in line with the principles of the Circular Economy.

Aligned with our Government’s priorities around the Circular Economy, a first pilot project enabled us to incite creative entrepreneurs to send in their circular project ideas in view of implementing new solutions in order to generate added value and open up new business opportunities. The creative industries sector benefitted from the necessary professional support and attention, and was able to shine with its ingenuity and apply its problem solving mindset to real life problems. As a result, the first edition of this Challenge saw 5 winners awarded with a partnership with project partners such as Ankaa Project ASBL, the University of Luxembourg, Goodyear, Lycée des Arts et Métiers, PROgroup, Office Freylinger and Silversquare Luxembourg.

The Circular by Design Challenge provides excellent opportunities to raise awareness about the importance of the circular economy and to look for new ideas and business models.

Circular Design Challenge – 2nd edition

Under the impulse of the Luxembourg Creative Industries Cluster of Luxinnovation and with the support of the Ministry of the Economy, the second edition of the Circular By Design Challenge is now open to project partners and creative entrepreneurs across Europe.

The Challenge connects creative entrepreneurs with businesses looking for circular design solutions and innovative business models.

Successful applicants will follow a dedicated 12-week coaching programme and be given the opportunity to develop their service or product idea with one of our project partners. As part of the European expansion of this second edition, we are looking for European partner companies with specific needs in line with the circular economy principles.

What we are offering:

A pro-active involvement of project partners in order to help drive change and innovation. Sought solutions can range from circular service design or product design to new digital solutions, in one of the following categories:

1. Sustainable cities
2. Industry 4.0
3. Fashion
4. Mobility

Project partner will be invited to:

  • help shape the Challenge in a dedicated category, whilst looking for viable new solutions for their business
  • assist the international jury members to select the best applicants amongst the submitted ideas
  • actively participate in 3 steering committee sessions, in order to help selected participants reach a circular, economically viable and feasible project idea level
  • assist our jury in selecting the overall category winner
